Scotland turn on the style in try-fest triumph over Argentina

The match ebbed and flowed, with both silky attacks having moments of champagne rugby as the tries kept on rolling in. The Scots ultimately built a solid lead and two late converted tries from Los Pumas at the death earned them a bonus point.

The hosts opened the scoring when No.8 Joaquin Oviedo broke through the middle of a Scottish maul to cross for the first try.

But it was all Scotland for the rest of the half. They responded after 18 minutes through a moment of quality from Hutchinson, whose clever footwork created space before he delivered a pinpoint pass for Tuipulotu to score in the corner. Flyhalf Fergus Burke converted.

The visitors soon extended their lead when Kyle Rowe broke into space before setting up South African-born prop Pierre Schoeman, who celebrated his 50th Test cap with a close-range try.

Scotland struck again before the break as centre Tuipulotu tore through the Argentine defence before sending Hutchinson over to finish a superb attacking move.

Argentina reduced the deficit early in the second stanza through Rodrigo Isgro, who executed a brilliant one-handed finish. The score cut Scotland's lead to just two points, reviving memories of last year's dramatic collapse against the Pumas at Murrayfield.

But this time, Scotland stayed composed. Their line-out provided the platform for Ewan Ashman to produce a clever backhand pass to Ben White, who put replacement lock Gregor Brown over for another try.

White was again involved moments later, exploiting a three-on-two overlap to send Scott Cummings over as the lock marked his 50th Scotland appearance with a try.

Argentina stayed in touch when Tomas Rapetti powered over before Jamie Dobie received a yellow card, leaving Scotland a man down with a 33-24 advantage.

The numerical disadvantage made little difference as debutant hooker George Hiddleston peeled away from a driving maul to score his first international try.

Argentina's hopes were further dented when Joaquin Moro was sin-binned and Rowe capped an outstanding performance by racing clear for a deserved try to seal the result.

Late scores from Lucio Cinti and Agustin Moyano reduced the margin, but Scotland had already done enough to claim victory. They now have the unenviable task of travelling to Pretoria to face the Springboks.
