URC: Strong finish sees Stormers clinch bonus-point victory over Edinburgh

The result solidified their grip on second place in the United Rugby Championship standings.

Despite the convincing scoreline, the contest was far tighter than it suggests. Edinburgh showed resilience throughout and even held a 14-12 lead midway through the second half after Boan Venter powered over following sustained forward pressure, with Ross Thompson adding the conversion.

That advantage was short-lived. A sharp break from Leolin Zas set up Ntuthuko Mchunu for a crucial try just five minutes later, finished off via Warrick Gelant's final pass and converted by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

From there, the Stormers took control, with Evan Roos crossing for his second try in the 68th minute to secure the bonus point, before Deon Fourie sealed the win from a late scrum.

The hosts' second-half dominance contrasted sharply with a frustrating opening period. Although they controlled possession and territory, poor handling and ill-discipline hindered their progress.

Mchunu was sin-binned for cynical play, while Feinberg-Mngomezulu missed two penalty attempts.

Roos had earlier opened the scoring in the 25th minute after a flowing move involving Dan du Plessis and Mchunu, but Edinburgh struck back through a stunning intercept try by James Lang, who ran the length of the field and beat Gelant to level matters at 7-7 at the break.

A disallowed Edinburgh try early in the second half, ruled out for Liam McConnell's offside, proved a turning point as the Stormers' superior kicking game and forward dominance ultimately told.
