Wales ready to test themselves against 'best team in the world', says Tandy

The teams meet in the third round of the Nations Championship at Kings Park, with Wales determined to show how much they have improved since their heavy 73-0 defeat against the Springboks in Cardiff last November.

With a new coaching era under Tandy - and with several new faces in the Springbok side - Wales will be looking for a much-improved showing against the world champions.

"It's about our performance," Tandy said ahead of Saturday's Nations Championship clash in Durban.

"It's making sure we get our parts of the game on the field. If you get too far ahead of where you want to be, you won't get the performance.

"It'll definitely be physical. It's a chance to test ourselves against the best team in the world."

Tandy also welcomed the return of captain Dewi Lake, after he was able to recover from the knock that forced him off against Argentina.

"He's a tough man. He's been brilliant in the way he's led the team. His performances have been excellent. We're pleased he's come through fit."

After a decisive win against Fiji to kick off their Nations Championship campaign, Wales were beaten 35-21 by Argentina in San Juan last weekend, but Tandy is confident his side remains on an upward trajectory.

"The autumn campaign was excellent learning. The Six Nations, we got better every game. We beat Italy and played well against Ireland and Scotland.

"We backed up Italy with the Fiji win. We're disappointed with last week. We're lucky we've got another game on the weekend to finish off," he added.
