Walter Steenbok appointed new Sekhukhune United Director of Football

Steenbok most recently worked as Technical Director of the South African Football Association until his resignation in February.

He has previously worked at Kaizer Chiefs as Head of Scouting, Recruitment and Analysis and as a scout at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The experienced mentor was recently linked with both Siwelele and Chippa United but Sekhukhune won the race for his signature.

A club statement read: "Sekhukhune United F.C. is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Walter Gaboinewe Steenbok as its new Director of Football Strategy, reinforcing the club's commitment to long-term excellence and high-performance football.

"Dr Steenbok brings over two decades of experience in coaching, technical leadership, scouting, and football administration. He has held senior roles at top South African clubs and within National football structures, contributing significantly to talent identification, youth development, and modern football systems.

"He holds a PhD in Sports Science and has participated in leading FIFA, CAF, and UEFA technical programmes.

"In his new role, Dr Steenbok will, amongst other things, oversee the club's football strategy and playing philosophy, ensuring alignment from the senior team to development structures.

"He will lead the talent pathway, scouting, and high-performance programme. Chairman Simon Malatji shared his excitement at the appointment of an experienced football strategist, and hopes the appointment will aid the development of Sekhukhune to greater heights.
