Naledi Hlongwane ecstatic with winner for Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs striker Naledi Hlongwane was delighted to lead his side to their first pre-season win with his goal in the 1-0 victory over PEC Zwolle.
The 35-year-old attacker, who spent the 2023/24 campaign at the club after joining from Al Riyadh, managed five goals and three assists in 30 appearances.
While his contract included an option to extend for another year, Al-Okhdood opted not to trigger the clause, releasing Musona alongside six other players, including Nigerian winger Saviour Godwin and Guinea's Ousmane Barry, FarPost reported.
Despite this setback, Musona remains eager to continue playing at a competitive level. With a wealth of experience across Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East, the ex-Chiefs star will be eyeing a fresh challenge - potentially his final one - as he prepares to help Zimbabwe qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After retiring from international football in 2022, Musona made a surprise return earlier this year during Zimbabwe's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Benin.
His leadership and influence were immediately felt, with the national team coach lauding his decision to return as vital for rebuilding the Warriors.
While his club future remains uncertain, his legacy - especially in South African football - is firmly intact. During his time with Amakhosi, Musona bagged over 40 goals and 19 assists, collecting numerous individual accolades including the Golden Boot.
As Musona embarks on what could be the final chapter of a decorated career, fans across Africa will be watching closely to see where the "Smiling Assassin" resurfaces next.
