He insists there is no fallout between the two while explaining the tactical reasons behind his selection choices.
Mabasa has been one of the most noticeable omissions from Pirates' starting line-up since the start of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
Instead, Ouaddou has regularly opted for Evidence Makgopa and Yanela Mbuthuma, a decision that has puzzled many supporters given Mabasa's proven scoring record.
The forward has made nine appearances in all competitions this campaign, scoring four goals - and he was instrumental in Ouaddou getting his trophy at Bucs after he scored in the 3-0 win against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 final early this season.
With speculation swirling about the 28-year-old's future, Ouaddou used his appearance on MSW on 947 to address the matter.
"To be honest, many people are asking me that question," he said.
"First of all, I don't have any issue with Mabasa. He's a player I love. He's a good guy and a good striker. But right now, I have a lot of strikers and sometimes the profile of the defence we're facing influences my choice."
Ouaddou stressed that his game model demands relentless running, pressing, and high fitness levels, which determine which striker suits a particular match.
"Sometimes we play high, sometimes mid-block. If opponents are building from the back, we need someone who can chase. I have Makgopa, Mbuthuma, Mabasa, Boitumelo Radiopane, and Sfiso Luthuli - five players for one position."
He acknowledged fans' perception that Mabasa may be treated unfairly but emphasised that tactical demands dictate selection.
"Mabasa knows he's one of the best finishers in the box. But because we press very high and chase, I can't allow opponents to keep the ball for more than five seconds," the Bucs mentor added.
"He knows it's an area he needs to improve. When other players offer that pressing intensity, we select them. We simply expect a bit more from him in that department."
Ouaddou's team selection at Pirates might be questionable in his first few games at the club. However, he has now made the fans to trust him after winning his second trophy at the club when they beat his former club Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the Carling Knockout final this past weekend.
