Sipho Chaine: Orlando Pirates will miss Mbekezeli Mbokazi's 'presence'

The left-footed centre-back, who will leave the Buccaneers after the Africa Cup of Nations, is set to join Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer in the United States.

Mbokazi, originally from Hluhluwe, was handed the captain's armband for his farewell appearance, with regular skipper Nkosinathi Sibisi starting on the bench.

He signed off in perfect fashion as Orlando Pirates secured the Carling Knockout Cup title, defeating Marumo Gallants at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Lifting the trophy marked a fitting end to Mbokazi's spell at the club, and his team-mates have been quick to acknowledge the impact he has made. Chaine, in particular, emphasised that Mbokazi's departure will leave a noticeable void within the squad.

The goalkeeper highlighted the defender's commanding presence in the dressing room and the energy he consistently brought to the team environment.

"His presence in the dressing room, how he's crazy and how he jokes around with everyone," said Chaine.

"He's been a really important piece of the parcel in the group. He brought his own Mbekezeli in the group.

"I think the most important thing is that in a team, everyone must bring himself. That's the most important thing we'll miss about him."
