Abdeslam Ouaddou praises Orlando Pirates' character after costly draw

In a match that tested both their defensive discipline and mental strength, the Buccaneers were forced to come from behind twice at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex. While the result ultimately cost them a chance to move to the top of the Betway Premiership standings, Ouaddou chose to focus on the character his players displayed under pressure.

"I think there's a bit of disappointment because we dropped two points in this race," Ouaddou told SuperSport TV.

"But the guys fought until the end, and we must continue to fight until the end."

Pirates remain second on 55 points, just one behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have a game in hand. Despite the disadvantage, Ouaddou dismissed any suggestion that the title race is slipping away.

"A lot of people may think it's over, but we don't think like that—we have to keep going. Anything can happen in a season, and we don't have the right to give up," he said.

The Moroccan tactician admitted that Richards Bay once again proved a difficult opponent on their home turf, with Pirates unable to maintain their usually solid defensive record. However, he found encouragement in his team's response.

"It's always difficult when we come here—they give us a tough game. Unfortunately, we conceded twice today, and when you concede two goals here, it becomes very difficult to score three," he added.

"We must congratulate the players for their character because they came back and scored two goals. That is positive, even if we lost two points."

Pirates will look to reignite their title charge when they host AmaZulu FC on April 18.
