The La Liga champions have openly expressed their interest in signing the Argentine attacker ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the player also conceding that he is ready for a move away from Atleti.
However, the Rojiblancos have been firm in their stance that they deem the player untouchable in the current transfer window and have not been willing to sell to their La Liga rivals.
"We sent a bid for Julian and Atletico will decide," confirmed Laporta.
"This bid is a very good one, but it's not valid forever. [Hansi] Flick and Deco want Julian… but if Atlético do not accept, we will work on alternative options."
According to reports, Barca have made a bid around the region of €100 million and are willing to improve the overall package by including performance-based bonuses.
The 26-year-old striker has impressed since joining Atletico from Manchester City, scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists in 106 appearances whilst also helping his nation Argentina to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
