Trent Alexander-Arnold backs Jose Mourinho to deliver Real Madrid success

Mourinho returned to the Spanish giants in June for a second spell following a disappointing campaign that saw Real Madrid finish without the La Liga title and exit the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

Alexander-Arnold said he has always admired Mourinho and is enjoying the opportunity to train under one of football's most successful managers.

"I have always admired the coach," Alexander-Arnold said. "I've played against him a couple of times, and it's a pleasure to work with him and his team.

"It's intense. The principles and the level of demand are very high, so I'm looking forward to getting to know him better, learning more and seeing what he can teach us. We're all willing and eager to learn and improve.

"I'm sure he'll teach us many things and help us win trophies this year."

The England international joined Real Madrid from Liverpool last year but endured a difficult first season in Spain. Injuries disrupted his progress, and he was unable to secure a regular place in the starting line-up.

Alexander-Arnold now has the chance to make the right-back position his own following Dani Carvajal's departure in May.

The 27-year-old said he is delighted to be back to full fitness after spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"I've been out of action for a long time, so it's good to finally be back and to lay a solid foundation for a successful season," he said.
