Romero touted for La Liga switch ahead of imminent Tottenham exit
Argentina defender Cristian Romero is being linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer amid interest from European clubs.

Mourinho has already started his second spell in charge at Valdebebas and is preparing for a fresh chapter at the Spanish giants. Alongside changes to the coaching staff and the introduction of several academy players to first-team training, he also inherits a new group of senior players to lead the dressing room.
Valverde will wear the captain's armband, with Vinicius Junior serving as vice-captain. Thibaut Courtois is third in the captaincy order, while Rodrygo completes the four-man leadership group.
Valverde has already spoken about what it means to become Real Madrid's first captain.
"Wearing the armband is something incredible; I never imagined being captain for Real Madrid, and I thoroughly enjoy every opportunity to wear the armband," Valverde said in an interview with Uruguayan television.
"It carries some pressure too. When you don't have it, you crave it, and when you wear it, you want a bit of peace."
The Uruguay international also explained that the role is something that has to be earned.
"Being a Real Madrid captain is the consequence of time and a job well done. It's not a gift," he said in an official club statement.
"Pride, experience, responsibility, judgment, balance... It is a great honour, tremendous pride. It's also a nice pressure. I continue learning from all the captains and to be able to earn more respect every day."
Valverde has also made it clear that leading the club means defending its values both on and off the pitch.
"I'll always be there to protect the club at my best, as I'm usually doing. Being captain of Madrid is a great honour, tremendous pride," he said.
Valverde's promotion follows Real Madrid's long-standing tradition of awarding the captaincy to the most senior player in the first-team squad.
He joined the club from Penarol in 2016 after turning 18, spent a season with Castilla and another on loan at Deportivo La Coruna before becoming a regular in the first team in 2018. He is now preparing for his ninth consecutive season with the senior squad.
Mourinho has already met two members of his leadership group during the opening days of pre-season. Courtois is continuing his recovery after suffering an injury during the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Spain, while Rodrygo is rehabilitating after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his right knee.
Vinicius also moves into a more prominent leadership role as second captain. Although he arrived at Real Madrid during the same transfer window as Courtois, the Brazilian moves ahead of the goalkeeper in the captaincy order under the club's seniority rules and because an outfield player is better placed to communicate with referees during matches.
