The 18-year-old forward picked up the injury during Barcelona's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Wednesday. Yamal appeared to hurt his left hamstring as he converted the winning penalty before limping off with assistance from the club's medical staff.
Barcelona confirmed the diagnosis in an official statement, saying: "Tests have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg. The player will follow a conservative treatment plan."
The club added that Yamal would "miss the remainder of the league season but is expected to be available for the World Cup," easing fears over his international future.
Yamal has been one of Barcelona's standout performers this campaign. He scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in 28 league matches, while also contributing six goals and four assists in 10 UEFA Champions League games. His absence will be keenly felt as Barcelona push to secure the title.
Despite their European exit to Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals, Barcelona remain in a strong domestic position. The victory over Celta Vigo moved them nine points clear of Real Madrid with six matches left.
Yamal will miss several key fixtures, including the decisive Clasico against Real Madrid on May 10, a game that could define the title race.
Internationally, Yamal remains central to Spain national football team plans. He was named young player of the tournament during their triumph at UEFA Euro 2024 and has already scored six goals in 25 appearances for his country.
Spain are now expected to have him available for their opening match of the 2026 World Cup on June 15, offering hope that the teenage star will return in time for the biggest stage.
