Bayern handed boost as Jamal Musiala targets August return after surgery

The 23-year-old had a metal plate removed from his foot, which had been inserted after the serious injury he suffered last year. The operation is expected to help resolve the lingering problems that affected him throughout the previous campaign.

According to Kicker, Musiala chose to have the procedure done during the off-season rather than wait until the winter break, allowing him more time to recover before the new campaign begins.

The Germany international is expected to return to Bayern's training base at Sabener Strasse on July 31 after being given a few extra days of holiday. If his rehabilitation goes according to plan, he hopes to rejoin full team training on August 8.

That timeline would put Musiala in contention for Bayern's first competitive fixture of the season, the German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on August 22.

Bayern will then begin the defence of their Bundesliga title away to VfB Stuttgart on August 28.

Musiala's recovery will be closely monitored, but the latest procedure is expected to give the attacking midfielder the best chance of returning fully fit and without the long-term foot issues that disrupted his performances last season.
