Betway Premiership: Sekhukhune held, Gallants end winless run, AmaZulu stumble again

Durban City 1-1 Sekhukhune United

Durban City dropped points after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday, missing the chance to move into third place in the Betway Premiership.

The hosts dominated early, creating several openings through Saziso Magawana, Haashim Domingo, Samkelo Maseko, and Terrence Mashego, but goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and a combination of misses kept the scoreline level. The breakthrough came in the 70th minute as Magawana capitalised on a team move to score his second goal in as many games.

Sekhukhune responded late, with defender Tshepho Mashiloane firing in an 87th-minute equaliser for the visitors, salvaging a point.

Durban City remain third on the log, just a point ahead of Sekhukhune, while the latter earn a valuable draw following a recent loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. Both sides return to Betway Premiership action on the weekend of 13-15 March.

Chippa United 1-3 Marumo Gallants

Marumo Gallants ended a 12-match winless streak with a 3-1 triumph over Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium on Wednesday, boosting their Betway Premiership survival hopes.

Chippa appeared set to extend a six-game unbeaten run after Harold Majadibou's first-half header put the hosts 1-0 up. Gallants, however, responded strongly after the break. Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo equalised in the 53rd minute, before Msindisi Kunene's close-range strike in the 64th minute gave the visitors the lead. Mohamed Doumbia sealed the win in the 81st minute following a defensive error.

Gallants had early chances through Msindisi Ndlovu and Monde Mphambaniso, while Chippa threatened with Justice Figuareido and Sinoxolo Kwayiba. Injuries forced Gallants to make an early substitution, but the side showed resilience to secure their first league victory since October.

The win moves Gallants to 14th, one point behind Chippa, with both sides back in action on 13-15 March.

AmaZulu 0-0 Magesi

AmaZulu FC extended their goal drought to three matches as they were held 0-0 by bottom-placed Magesi FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Usuthu had chances through Nkosikhona Radebe, Hendrick Ekstein, Thando Ngwenya, and Thabiso Kutumela, but goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze and a combination of missed opportunities kept the score level. Magesi threatened sporadically, with Sifiso Luthuli and substitutes Edmore Chirambadare and Kabelo Mahlasela going close, but they were unable to find a breakthrough.

AmaZulu were further hampered late in the second half when Thando Ngwenya received a second yellow card, leaving the hosts to finish the match with 10 men.

The draw keeps AmaZulu fifth on the log, while Magesi remain bottom, extending their winless run across all competitions to 11 matches. Both sides return to action on the weekend of 13-15 March, with AmaZulu facing Richards Bay and Magesi hosting Chippa United.
