Betway Premiership: Wounded Orlando Pirates face tricky Polokwane City test
A wounded Orlando Pirates side return to domestic action on Wednesday night with a tricky Betway Premiership clash against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium.
This predicament has forced the Thohoyandou-based club to request the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to postpone their Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) fixture against University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium on Sunday.
The club's struggles were evident in their opening match last week against Casric Stars, where they fielded just 10 players and no recognised goalkeeper, eventually losing 0-3 at home.
With FIFA yet to respond to their request for permission to register new players, Black Leopards see postponement as their only viable option while awaiting clarity from the world football governing body.
Speaking to Sowetan, club president Tshifhiwa Thidiela says the club has formally appealed to the PSL for assistance, while waiting to hear from FIFA.
"It will depend on them (PSL) if they will postpone. Obviously, they will need to come to our rescue," Thidiela said.
"We don't know (to get the outcome of the appeal from FIFA). I think the tricky thing is also getting the actual details. I don't think anyone is really clear about it. So that's the struggle," Thidiela explained.
