Bournemouth score late winner to edge out Liverpool in five-goal thriller

The reigning champions arrived on the south coast in resilient form, having drawn four consecutive Premier League matches, but were punished late on as Amine Adli struck decisively after Bournemouth committed bodies forward in a calculated late gamble that ultimately paid off.

The result was only Bournemouth's second win in 14 matches and lifted Andoni Iraola's side up to 13th in the table, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Liverpool, led by head coach Arne Slot, endured a disjointed opening and fell 2-0 behind. Virgil van Dijk made a costly defensive error that allowed Evanilson to open the scoring, before Alex Jimenez doubled the hosts' advantage.

Matters were compounded when Joe Gomez was forced off injured, temporarily reducing Liverpool to 10 men.

Van Dijk partially redeemed himself by heading Liverpool back into the contest from a Dominik Szoboszlai corner, before the visitors began to dominate territory.

Much of the second half was played in Bournemouth's half, although Liverpool struggled to create clear-cut chances. Andy Robertson, who replaced Milos Kerkez at half-time amid ongoing transfer speculation, added impetus down the left.

With 10 minutes remaining, Szoboszlai levelled the match with a well-struck free-kick, seemingly completing a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down.

However, Bournemouth refused to settle for a point. Their willingness to take risks late on was rewarded when Adli found space in the box to fire home the winner deep into stoppage time.
