Brazil defender Eder Militao ruled out of 2026 World Cup after undergoing surgery

The Brazil international sustained the problem during last week's La Liga win over Alaves and later travelled to Finland for specialist consultation, where a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg was diagnosed. Surgery was carried out on Tuesday by Dr Lasse Lempainen.

In a statement, the club said: "Our player Eder Militao underwent successful surgery today for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg."

They added: "Militao will begin his recovery work in the coming days."

Although no official timeline was given, reports suggest the 28-year-old will be sidelined for at least five months, ruling him out of Brazil's World Cup campaign in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Militao responded after the operation, writing: "Anyone who knows me knows how much I dedicated myself and worked hard to be in my best physical condition; but unfortunately, I have to take care of my body so that I can play for Real Madrid and the National Team with confidence."

He also reassured supporters, adding: "Everything is fine."

The setback continues a difficult run for the defender, who has suffered multiple serious injuries in recent years, including two cruciate ligament ruptures since joining Madrid in 2019.
