AFCON 2025: Egypt into semi-finals after fending off late surge against Ivory Coast
Egypt pulled off a 3-2 win over Ivory Coast on Saturday to book their place in the AFCON 2025 semi-finals, keeping alive their hopes of claiming an eighth title.

"I am proud of my players. We competed well against Morocco, and we leave the tournament with our heads held high," Pagou said, reflecting on a match that saw the Indomitable Lions struggle to break down the hosts' disciplined defence.
The Cameroonian side found it difficult to convert opportunities, with Morocco's second-half goal proving decisive.
"We faced some difficulties, but we came back well in the second half. The second goal we conceded decided the match," Pagou told the media after the game.
Despite the setback, the coach emphasised the positives in his squad, highlighting the youth and potential within the team.
"Overall, I am satisfied with the performance. We have a young and new squad, and the players deserve credit for their efforts for the Cameroonian people," he said.
Many of Pagou's players were experiencing continental competition for the first time, giving the tournament an added layer of learning and growth.
"There is a bright future for our young players. We have learned many lessons and leave the tournament with a lot of positives," he added.
The defeat marks a disappointing end to Cameroon's campaign, but Pagou's message is clear: the foundation has been laid for a promising next generation of Indomitable Lions.
With experience gained at the highest level, the team can now build on their AFCON lessons and aim for stronger performances in future competitions.
