Carling Knockout presents different challenges for PSL big three
Pirates will face Milford, Chiefs host TS Galaxy, while Sundowns take on Marumo Gallants in a repeat of last season’s opening-round meeting.
For Pirates, the competition offers an opportunity to respond after losing the MTN8 final 2-0 to Sundowns, ending their hopes of winning the trophy for a fifth consecutive season.
The Buccaneers will also be determined to defend their Carling Knockout crown after beating Gallants in last season’s final. However, their campaign could become increasingly demanding should they qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage while competing in the Betway Premiership.
Meanwhile, Sundowns enter the competition with confidence after lifting the MTN8 trophy, but Gallants could once again prove troublesome.
The Limpopo outfit eliminated the Brazilians on penalties at the same stage last season and will believe they can repeat that achievement.

Mamelodi Sundowns v Marumo Gallants
Golden Arrows v Chippa United
Durban City v Stellenbosch
