Chippa United release 18 players in major clear-out

The Chilli Boys ended their recently completed campaign in 11th place and last week announced the appointment of Sinethemba Badela as the club's new head coach.

Mark Mayambela, meanwhile, is reportedly set to be officially unveiled as first assistant to Badela, while Bafana Bafana performance analyst Sinesipho Mali has joined Chippa as sporting director.

Departing the club are Darren Johnson, Lukhanyo July, Justice Chabalala, Samkelo Jali, Andile Jali, Baraka Majogoro, Athenkosi Dlala, Ronald Sanou, Craig Martin, Ronald Maarman, Thobani Jacobs, Sifiso Mazibuko, Aviwe Mgokozo, Enock Sakala and Bienvenu Eva Nga.

Loanees Aphelele Teto [Livingston FC], Siphelo Baloni [Orlando Pirates] and Sonwabo Khumalo [Pele Pele FC] will also depart and make a return to their parent clubs.

Part of a statement read: "Chippa United Football Club can confirm the departure of several players as their contracts with the club come to an end at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

"We extend our sincere gratitude to each of them for their service and commitment during their time at the club. Their contributions, both on and off the field, are appreciated and respected."
