Club legend Brian Baloyi calls for urgent action at Kaizer Chiefs

Club legend Brian Baloyi calls for urgent action at Kaizer Chiefs

The club legend questioned whether co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are ready to lead one of Africa's biggest clubs without experienced technical support.

Baloyi, who spent 11 years at the club before his controversial move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004, is no stranger to pressure at the highest level.

During his time with Amakhosi, he won multiple domestic cups and the 2003/04 league title, making his opinion one that carries significant weight.

"Honestly, the coaches are new to this level — they've always been assistant coaches," Baloyi said on the Soccer Beat podcast after the loss in Suez.

"Now they are coaching one of the biggest clubs on the continent. The club needs to make a quick decision. A technical director needs to come in and help them, if they will be in charge until the end of the season."

The defeat ended a promising run of three consecutive wins for Chiefs — victories over AS Simba (3–1), Durban City FC (1–0), and Orbit College FC (4–1) — raising concerns about the team's direction. Fans were particularly critical of the team selection, with Mfundo Vilakazi and Asanele Velebayi replaced by Pule Mmodi and Ashley Du Preez.

While the scoreline was close, Al Masry — who had only scored twice in their previous three matches — looked average on the night, leaving many questioning why Chiefs failed to assert control.

The Glamour Boys will be looking to redeem themselves when they host Zamalek in Polokwane on Sunday.
