Coach Maurizio Sarri set for swift Lazio return after heart surgery

The club have said Sarri had a catheter ablation operation on Monday at the Tor Vergata Polyclinic in Rome after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. The procedure was carried out by Professor Andrea Natale and had a positive outcome.

Atrial fibrillation is a condition that causes an irregular and often rapid heartbeat and can lead to symptoms including fatigue, dizziness and shortness of breath, while also increasing the risk of blood clots and stroke.

In a statement, Lazio have reassured supporters that Sarri's recovery is progressing well and that his absence will be brief. Assistant coach Marco Ianni has taken charge of training in the meantime and will oversee preparations over the next few days.

"SS Lazio confirms that coach Maurizio Sarri underwent a catheter ablation operation at the Tor Vergata Polyclinic after a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation," the club said.

"The surgery, performed by Professor Andrea Natale, an international pioneer with more than 30 years' experience in treating this condition, was carried out with a positive outcome.

"Lazio's club doctor, Dr Italo Leo, was present for the procedure. The coach will resume his regular leadership of the team in the coming days."

Lazio and Sarri have also thanked the medical staff for their professionalism and level of care.

The former Napoli coach could return to the dugout this weekend, with Lazio set to host Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, depending on medical clearance.
