Danny Jordaan keeps SAFA presidency after defeating Zungu

Danny Jordaan has been re-elected as the South African Football Association president for an unprecedented fourth term after a landslide victory over Sandile Zungu.

The 75-year-old received 157 votes from delegates at the elective conference in Midrand on Saturday, with Zungu getting 82 votes, securing 65.7 percent majority and the presidency for the next four years.

Jordaan has served in the role since 2013 and has already stated that this tenure will be his final term as SAFA president, but he also took a jab at opponent Zungu, claiming foul play in the run up to the result.

"There was an attempt to derail the elections," stated Jordaan after the victory.

"When it became clear that they weren't going to win the elections, they tried to derail them. And that was the wrong model.

"So, we had to try and focus on what is good for South African football. We cannot have threats to derail any of our activities. The meeting went ahead. We had an election.

"At the end, I think we are happy with the outcome of the elections, through a democratic process, which was run by the people who are experienced to run the country's elections."

Jordaan's latest stint will last until 2030.
