Decision looms over John Maduka as Magesi seek clarity

Maduka was conspicuously absent from the touchline when Magesi suffered a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, their first Betway Premiership fixture of the year.

In his absence, assistant coach Abram Nteo assumed responsibility for the team, working alongside Jacky Ledwaba as speculation over the coach's status intensified.

A source close to the club has revealed that senior management are scheduled to meet with Maduka early this week, after which an official announcement will be made. Club PRO Abel Rakoma confirmed that the club will communicate its position once internal processes have been concluded, urging patience from the media.

"We will provide details after meeting with him on Tuesday," Rakoma said. "I want to plead with our media to be patient until then. After Tuesday, I will be able to liaise with you with respect. For now, he remains the head coach of the team."

Maduka was appointed at the beginning of the 2025/26 season following the disbandment of Royal AM FC, arriving with a strong reputation built during his playing days with Bloemfontein Celtic. However, results have not matched expectations. Across 14 matches under his stewardship, Magesi have managed just two victories, with five draws and seven defeats.

The latest loss has left Magesi bottom of the Betway Premiership standings, having collected 11 points from 15 matches, increasing pressure on the technical team as the relegation battle intensifies.

With the season entering a critical phase, the club's next move could shape their survival hopes, making the upcoming meeting with Maduka a pivotal moment for Magesi FC.
