The former SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs coach was left without a job after parting ways with Matsatsantsa in March.
City won their promotion through Simo Dladla but opted for an jexperienced manager for their first season back in the top-flight, after being relegated as Maritzburg City in 2023.
A club statement read: "Durban City Football Club is delighted to officially announce the appointment of Gavin Hunt as the Club's new Head Coach ahead of the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season.
"With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades at the top level of South African Football, Hunt brings a wealth of experience, having won multiple league titles and domestic trophies.
“His strong leadership style and results driven approach aligns perfectly with Durban City's ambitions as we prepare for the upcoming 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season.”
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia added: "We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City. His record speaks for itself and we believe he is the right person to lead our team into this exciting new era.
