Eintracht Frankfurt forward Elye Wahi returns to Ligue 1, joins Nice on loan

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Elye Wahi returns to Ligue 1, joins Nice on loan

Frankfurt paid around 26 million euros to sign Wahi from Marseille in January 2025, but the move failed to deliver.

He scored just once in all competitions - a DFB-Pokal goal against fifth-tier opposition - and went goalless in 18 Bundesliga appearances. His struggles saw him dropped from matchday squads at times, with tensions reported between the striker and head coach Dino Toppmoller.

With confidence low, Frankfurt opted for a loan move, rejecting the inclusion of a purchase option in the deal. Nice won the race for his signature ahead of interest from Sevilla, offering Wahi a chance to revive his career in familiar surroundings.

Sporting director Markus Krosche reiterated Frankfurt's belief in the forward, pointing to his prolific record in France, where he scored 29 league goals for Montpellier before moves to Lens and Marseille.

Nice, now under experienced coach Claude Puel, are hoping Wahi's pace and power can help lift them after a difficult first half of the season.

For Wahi, the switch back to Ligue 1 represents an opportunity to rebuild confidence and rediscover the form that once marked him as one of France's most promising young forwards.
