EPL wrap: Viktor Gyokeres scores first Arsenal goals in Leeds rout

Arsenal 5-0 Leeds United

Arsenal delivered a commanding 5-0 win over Leeds at the Emirates, highlighted by Viktor Gyokeres' two goals on his debut. New signing Eberechi Eze was unveiled before the match.

Jurrien Timber opened the scoring with a header and assisted Bukayo Saka to double the lead. Arsenal's set-piece dominance was key, with Timber adding a second goal from a corner.

Gyokeres scored a brilliant solo goal shortly after halftime and later converted a penalty won by teenager Max Dowman on his Premier League debut.

Dowman, 15 years old, impressed with confident play and became Arsenal's second-youngest player. The team showed strong depth and attacking threat.

The win came with concern as captain Martin Odegaard and Saka were forced off injured. Leeds offered little resistance throughout.

Arsenal continue their push towards the title with style but now face injury worries over key players.

Burnley 2-0 Sunderland

Burnley opened their Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Sunderland at Turf Moor.

Goals from Josh Cullen and Jaidon Anthony in the second half secured the three points.

Sunderland created early chances but were denied by Burnley's goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. A disallowed goal for Burnley in the first half kept the score level at halftime.

Just after the break, Cullen scored calmly from 16 yards to break the deadlock. A brief floodlight issue delayed play, but Burnley kept control.

In the closing minutes, Cullen set up Anthony to round the keeper and score, sealing the win. Burnley almost added a third late on but hit the post.

Manager Scott Parker earned his first Premier League win in nearly three years. Sunderland, after a promising start last weekend, were left frustrated by missed chances.

The result could prove crucial for Burnley in the battle to stay clear of relegation, as they showed resilience and clinical finishing.

Bournemouth 1-0 Wolves

Bournemouth claimed their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Wolves at Vitality Stadium. Marcus Tavernier's early deflected shot proved decisive.

The goal came in the fourth minute after a quick turnover sparked by Tyler Adams. Bournemouth dominated possession and created multiple chances in the first half.

Wolves had opportunities but were let down by poor finishing. The match turned when Wolves captain Toti Gomes was sent off early in the second half.

Despite being a man up, Bournemouth couldn't add a second goal but defended well to maintain the lead. Their goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic made important saves.

Wolves pushed late for an equalizer but lacked quality in the final third. The defeat leaves them winless after two games.

Brentford 1-0 Aston Villa

Brentford earned a narrow 1-0 win against Aston Villa thanks to debutant Dango Ouattara's early goal. It was a strong start for new head coach Keith Andrews.

Ouattara scored in the 12th minute, reacting quickly to a rebound after a long clearance and flick from Igor Thiago. Brentford controlled much of the match thereafter.

Villa dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. A potential second Brentford goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul on the keeper.

Goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher made key saves, helping Brentford hold on for the win. Villa's attacking struggles continued despite spells of pressure.

Veteran Jordan Henderson made his first Premier League start since May 2023, showing leadership in midfield.

The win offers Brentford a positive platform under Andrews, while Villa need to find solutions up front.
