Ezri Konsa, Boubacar Kamara goals hand Aston Villa victory over Tottenham

The defeat marked Tottenham's 21st loss of a dismal league campaign, leaving them languishing in 17th place, while Villa climbed to fourth, extending their unbeaten home league run to 18 matches.

Villa, driven by the prospect of securing Champions League football for a second straight season, dominated from the outset.

John McGinn squandered an early chance, firing over from inside the box, but Emiliano Martínez ensured parity with a stunning save to deny Wilson Odobert's close-range effort. Morgan Rogers came close with a delicate strike tipped away by Tottenham's Antonín Kinský, while Marco Asensio's curling shot narrowly missed as the first half ended goalless.

The hosts raised their intensity after the break, and their pressure paid off in the 59th minute. Ollie Watkins headed McGinn's corner back across goal, and Konsa hooked the ball home for his second Premier League goal of the season.

McGinn nearly doubled the lead with a long-range strike that drifted wide, but Villa sealed the points in the 73rd minute. Kamara, collecting a pass from Rogers, feinted past a defender and rifled a low shot into the bottom corner for his first-ever Premier League goal.

Unai Emery, Villa's head coach, praised his team's relentless drive. "We are in the race for the Champions League positions, and that is very important. We are now in our best moment," he said, highlighting their focus on a top-five finish.

Tottenham, fielding a heavily rotated squad with their Europa League final against Manchester United looming on May 21, struggled to match Villa's physicality.

Ange Postecoglou, their manager, expressed frustration at his team's fade after the first goal. "We worked hard and were disciplined until they scored. Then we lost belief and fatigued. A lot of these players haven't played much, and the game got away from us," he said.

The loss confirmed Tottenham's lowest-ever Premier League points tally, a low point in a season where their European campaign has taken precedence.

Villa's victory, their ninth in 11 league games, sets them up for a crucial final matchday as they chase a Champions League spot. Tottenham, meanwhile, turn their attention to Bilbao, where a Europa League triumph could salvage their season with a first trophy in 17 years.
