FIFA World Cup: Bafana's Round of 32 opponent and date revealed

South Africa advanced past the group stage of the World Cup for the first time in the nation's history following a hard-fought 1-0 win against South Korea at Estadio Monterrey in Mexico on Thursday.

The victory set up a knockout round fixture against Canada in Los Angeles this coming Sunday, with both nations advancing to this stage of the competition for the first occasion in their history.

Bafana will back themselves to upset the co-hosts who will playing away from home at the Los Angeles Stadium in the United States, with the American fans likely to support the African side against their rival neighbours.

Both teams are inexperienced at this stage of the tournament, but more pressure will be on the co-hosts to progress to the Round of 16, with their fans set to be present in numbers due to the short travel distance to the US.

Hugo Broos' side will have their tails up after recovering from their loss against another co-host nation Mexico in the opening match, while Canada may be a little more cautious heading into the clash after their loss to Switzerland in their final Group B clash.

South Africa have now moved up from 60th spot to 54th on the latest FIFA rankings while Canada dropped to 31st position following the conclusion group phase fixtures.

Kick-off for the Round of 32 clash has been confirmed to be 21H00 (SA time).
