Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender says Sipho Mbule is holding himself back

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender says Sipho Mbule is holding himself back

Zwane believes the Bucs star could achieve much more if he combined his natural skill with greater work ethic and better fitness.

Speaking in a TikTok video, the retired right-back praised the 27-year-old's ability while urging him to make changes.

"You are a better player than me by a mile... you are so talented. If you can combine your talent with hard work, you can even surprise yourself with how far you can go," said Zwane

"I can imagine a Sipho Mbule who is leaner and in top physical condition. That version of you could do so much for Pirates and for the country."

Mbule, who has faced disciplinary challenges in the past, looked to be revitalized this season at Pirates, earning a call-up to Bafana Bafana for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

However, the midfielder struggled to make a significant impact in the tournament as South Africa exited in the round of 16, and he has often failed to complete full matches at club level.

Zwane suggested that Mbule's inconsistency stems from untapped potential rather than lack of ability.

"There's a player inside you that hasn't come out yet. That player is waiting for you to unleash him, but right now, you're making him lazy," Zwane said.

The former Sundowns and Golden Arrows defender concluded by emphasizing the importance of professional support.

"If you want to reach your peak, consider working with a personal trainer and fully committing to your physical development. Talent alone won't take you all the way - discipline and preparation are key."
