Granit Xhaka: Leverkusen ready to upset Bayern in title race

Granit Xhaka, the Swiss midfielder with 134 international caps, has made it clear that Leverkusen are not just aiming for a draw but are set on securing a victory against the league leaders.

In an interview with Sky Sports Germany, Xhaka emphasized the team's aggressive approach, stating, "We want to win every game. That's our mentality. It's in our hands to keep pushing, to believe in success and to win the upcoming games."

He acknowledged the challenge but also the opportunity, saying, "We know that we have to beat Bayern to stay in contention."

The match comes at a crucial time, with Leverkusen sitting eight points behind Bayern after 21 matchdays. A win could significantly stir the title race, putting pressure on Vincent Kompany's team, who have been in pole position.

Adding to the excitement around Leverkusen, young star Florian Wirtz has been in scintillating form, clinching the Bundesliga Player of the Month for January. This marks his second consecutive award, having previously won it for December.

Wirtz's performance has been nothing short of spectacular, contributing with two goals and two assists in January, even in limited playtime against Borussia Dortmund. His stats have been impressive, averaging 11.5 kilometers per game and being involved in 19 shots on goal, surpassed only by top strikers like Hugo Eketike and Harry Kane.

Wirtz, valued at 140 million euros by Transfermarkt.de, outshone competitors like Bayern's Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise, RB Leipzig's Willi Orban and Xavi Simons, and Werder Bremen's Romano Schmid to secure the award.

His consistent performances underline Leverkusen's capability to challenge the best, including in their upcoming clash with Bayern.

As the weekend approaches, Leverkusen's squad, bolstered by the confidence of players like Xhaka and the brilliance of Wirtz, are ready to make a statement in the Bundesliga. Xhaka concluded, "It's always special to play against Bayern Munich... We need a perfect day to beat them. I am convinced that we are capable of doing that."

This match could very well be the turning point in what has been an exhilarating battle for the Meisterschale.
