Hansi Flick admits he will miss Marcus Rashford at Barcelona

Rashford had a strong season on loan with Barcelona, helping them lift the LaLiga title in the 2025-26 campaign.

Several reports indicated Barcelona were interested in extending the loan another season or even signing him permanently if they could agree a lower fee with Manchester United.

However, that door closed as the transfer window opened after the Catalans signed Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi who both fill a similar role to Rashford.

As a result, the England international returned to United after the conclusion of the loan agreement and is busy training with them in preparation of the new Premier League season.

Even though an extension of Rashford's stay in Barcelona was not arranged, Flick revealed that he was an important player that he will miss going forward.

"You don't know what happens with players who are on loan -- our situation is not easy for that," he said.

"But I appreciate working with him. He is a fantastic player and a fantastic person. The team miss him, I will miss him, but it is life.

"This is what we have to accept. And in the end, Anthony Gordon comes and from the first call with him when I spoke with him, he is on fire with Barca and I'm really happy that he's on our team."

While Rashford's future is not secure at Manchester United, with reports suggesting the Red Devils are looking to sell him for around 40 million euros, there is also a strong chance he will remain at Old Trafford because they also do not want to sell him to a Premier League rival.

Earlier in the week, Rashford posted a heartful farewell to Barcelona and the club's fans.

"I'm very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience. I have enjoyed every moment and I will take many special memories with me," he said.

"I wish the club and all of its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead. Visca el Barca."
