'I always wanted to stay' - Konrad Laimer extends Bayern Munich contract

The Austria international has become one of Bayern's most reliable and versatile players, spending much of last season at right-back while also featuring at left-back and in midfield when required.

Despite his flexibility, Laimer admitted he does not know which position he will play during the 2026/27 campaign.

"I have no idea," Laimer said. "I feel comfortable in a lot of different positions. Over the last two years, I've mostly played at right-back, but also occasionally at left-back. I think I can help the team there with my qualities. Where I play doesn't matter to me, as long as I'm out on the pitch."

The 29-year-old also spoke about the negotiations that led to his new deal, revealing he remained calm throughout the process despite reports linking him with a move away from the club.

"I was always very relaxed about the whole situation," he said. "I'm happy that everything worked out and the deal is now done. It's a lot of fun here with all the guys and the entire coaching staff. I'm ready to keep pushing, keep improving, and take the next step."

Laimer admitted there were periods when there was little communication between Bayern and his representatives, but he never believed his future lay anywhere else.

"A lot was written, but that's just how the business works," he said. "I was always relaxed. For a long time, there wasn't any contact at all, then there was more communication again, and after that things moved quickly."

He added: "From my side, there was never any reason not to continue here - I always wanted to stay at the club."

Bayern Munich will play their next pre-season match against South Korean side Jeju SK FC on Tuesday at the Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo, South Korea, as part of the club's Audi Summer Tour.
