India breeze past Namibia to move closer to T20 World Cup Super-Eight challenge

India began well after being sent in to bat by Namibia, with Sanju Samson hitting a few boundaries before he chipped one shot to deep midwicket to take a simple catch with 25 runs on the board.

Fellow opener Ishan Kishan (61 off 21 balls) continued with his good form during the powerplay period to boost India to 104/1 before being caught at deep midwicket by Ben Shikongo off Gerhard Erasmus' first delivery of the seventh over.

Suryakumar Yadav (12) was the next to fall after being stumped off Bernard Scholtz bowling in the 11th over shortly before Tilak Varma (25) hauled out an Erasmus delivery to long off with the score at 124/4.

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube steadied the ship for India for an 81-run partnership before falling in consecutive balls in the 18th over which included a Dube run out with the score at 205/6.

Axar Patel became Erasmus' fourth wicket, bowled in the final over of the Nambian spinner's impressive spell of 4/20.

Bowler JJ Smith did well to restrict India to just three runs in the final over to leave the African side with a target of 210 runs to win the fixture.

In response, Namibia got off to a relatively slow start in the powerplay before Jan Frylinck was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh with the score at 33/1 after 3.4 overs.

Nicol Loftie-Eaton joined opener Louren Steenkamp at the crease with the latter accelerating his scoring to take the Africans to 58/1 after the powerplay without losing a wicket.

However, Varun Chakaravarthy broke the promising partnership with his very first ball bowling out Steenkamp (29) to leave Namibia at 67/2.

Chakaravarthy then got two wickets in the tenth over after getting Lofti-Eaton (13) caught by Patel before bowling out JJ Smith to leave Namibia reeling at 86/4.

Craig Williams side struggled to keep up with the run rate, putting on a poultry 17 runs in the next five overs whilst losing a further two wickets.

India's bowled diligently restricting the middle order and the tail enders with Pandya, Dube and Jasprit Bumrah taking wickets to dismiss Namibia for 116 all out.

The result sees India top Group A with a superior net run rate to second placed Pakistan while Namibia will need to win all their remaining matches and hope for a miracle in order to progress further in the tournament.
