Iraola backs "very hungry and ambitious" Victor Munoz to shine at Liverpool

Iraola backs "very hungry and ambitious" Victor Munoz to shine at Liverpool

The Reds signed the 23-year-old forward from Osasuna following an outstanding 2025-26 La Liga campaign.

Munoz is currently with Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will face Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister when Spain take on Argentina in Sunday's final.

Iraola joked that Liverpool are guaranteed to welcome back a world champion, regardless of the result.

"We will have someone who will win the World Cup!" Iraola told Liverpoolfc.com. "We don't know still if it's going to be Mac Allister or Victor, but someone will win it."

The Liverpool boss believes the timing of Munoz's arrival is ideal, with the young forward eager to prove himself while remaining grounded.

"With Victor, I think we signed him at a moment where he's very hungry, he's ambitious, but he's still humble and knows that he has to come very ready," Iraola said.

Iraola also highlighted Munoz's versatility as one of the key reasons Liverpool moved to sign him.

"I think he's someone with some versatility. He can play on the right, he can play on the left and he has the work-rate for everything we will require," he said.

The Liverpool coach admitted the club will have to be patient before Munoz links up with his new teammates after the World Cup, with Mac Allister also unavailable until after the tournament.

"We're looking forward to having him here, even if we know that we will have to wait for him and Macca," Iraola said.
