Carrick recently signed a new two-year contract as head coach after guiding United to third place and securing a UEFA Champions League spot, with the team showing strong form since he took charge. United have won 11 of their last 16 matches under his leadership, collecting more points than any other side in that period.
Speaking in an interview with former teammate Wayne Rooney at Carrington, Carrick said the motivation is simple.
"That's the buzz, that's what we've got to aim for," Carrick said. "It's where we want to be as a club, winning leagues and challenging for Champions Leagues. That's what gets us out of bed every day."
He added that the focus is on building momentum and using the off-season well to return stronger. Carrick also stressed the importance of passing on his experience to the players so they can keep improving together.
A key feature of his spell so far has been the atmosphere at Old Trafford, with impressive home wins over Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool. United have lost just once at home under his management, with several visiting sides leaving disappointed.
Carrick said the unity between players and supporters has stood out, especially in recent performances.
"It felt really together," he said after the win over Nottingham Forest. "There was enjoyment in the stadium, and you can feel the supporters getting behind it and looking forward to what's next."
He added that playing at Old Trafford should always bring excitement and belief, and that the aim is to keep pushing the club forward.
Manchester United now turn their attention to Brighton this Sunday in their final Premier League match of the season at the American Express Stadium, as Carrick looks to finish strongly and carry momentum into the next campaign.
