Morocco's Achraf Hakimi sends strong warning ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Morocco's Achraf Hakimi sends strong warning ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Looking ahead to Morocco's upcoming fixtures on the world stage, the defender insisted that the Atlas Lions are fully focused on recreating the success that captured the imagination of football fans in Qatar four years ago.

Speaking to French newspaper Onze Mondial, as reported by Moroccoworldnews.com, the 27-year-old said the squad believes it can once again compete with the best nations in the world.

"The World Cup is coming up this summer, and we are going to give it everything we've got. The squad has immense confidence, and we are preparing to have a great tournament, just as we did in Qatar in 2022," Hakimi said.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender added that Morocco's ambitions go beyond simply matching their previous performance, with the team eager to break new ground at the global showpiece.

"Why shouldn't we be better than we were in Qatar and go as far as possible? That is our goal. We will see how things progress, but I can assure you that we are ready to achieve great things in this tournament," he added.

Hakimi also highlighted the change in mentality within the Moroccan camp, insisting the squad no longer sees itself as underdogs against the traditional football powers.

"Our limits depend only on us. We are the ones who set our own ceiling, and thanks to our performances on the pitch and what we deliver in major tournaments, Morocco is growing and competing with the giant nations," said the Morocco international.

Morocco will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Brazil in Group C at MetLife Stadium on June 13.
