Joan Laporta 'demands' Barcelona target more trophies

Laporta congratulated the 24-year-old and used the moment to underline Barcelona's belief in their squad and direction under head coach Hansi Flick.

"It is recognition for Joan Garcia and, by extension, recognition for Barca because we have the best goalkeeper in the world," Laporta told reporters. "He is a player with great potential who is already a reality, and we are very happy to have him at our club."

Barcelona had already claimed silverware this season by winning the Spanish Super Cup and were sitting one point clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga following their latest league victory. Laporta said those results reflected steady progress but stressed that the focus remained on competing across all fronts.

"The main objective this season is to be in all the competitions we are competing in until the end and to win as many as we can," he said. "We want to stay alive in the Copa del Rey, continue doing well in La Liga and advance directly to the Champions League round of 16."

Barcelona were preparing for a crucial Champions League fixture against Copenhagen on Wednesday, knowing qualification for the knockout stages was within reach.

Laporta admitted football offered no guarantees but insisted confidence inside the club was high.

"I don't have a magic wand, but I'm sure we will be fighting until the end," he said. "My intuition tells me we are doing a great job and that we can surpass what we achieved last season, which was already historic."
