Rulani Mokwena open to Orlando Pirates return
Rulani Mokwena admits he would be open to a return to former club Orlando Pirates following his Wydad Athletic exit.
Riveiro took the decision to leave Pirates at the end of the recently completed season despite a successful tenure with the Betway Premiership club, where he won five trophies.
He has since moved to the Egyptian Premier League, where he is currently preparing his side for the upcoming Club World Cup - after which he will make concrete steps to strengthen the Red Devils.
Riveiro told Al Ahly TV: "I have not requested the inclusion of any player from Orlando Pirates to Al Ahly out of respect for them, as I respect the club.
"At the moment, I do not want to rush into looking for new deals. I am focusing on preparing for the Club World Cup, after which we will accurately determine our needs."
The Spanish coach joined Al Ahly as a replacement for Marcel Koller after being identified as a candidate following Pirates' run to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, where they lost to eventual winners Pyramids.
Koller's team, meanwhile, were defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns in their semi-final tie.
Riveiro added: "I think the results at Orlando Pirates prompted Al Ahly to pursue me. I followed Al Ahly recently; we were eliminated from the Champions League semi-finals.
"After that, Al Ahly changed their technical team, which is why the negotiations with me were quick."
Al Ahly face Inter Miami, Palmeiras and FC Porto in the Club World Cup from 15 June to 13 July 2025.
