Julian Brandt stamps out exit talk with Dortmund loyalty vow

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder, whose contract runs until June 2026, has been the subject of transfer rumours, with some reports suggesting the Black and Yellows might entertain offers for him in the upcoming transfer window.

However, Brandt has made it clear that his heart remains with Dortmund. "At the moment, I don't have any other plans," he said in an interview with Sky Germany. "I carry this club in my heart. I like the team I play with, and I have a good relationship with the coach."

His words reflect a deep bond with the club he joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 for a reported 25 million euros.

The rumours have partly stemmed from Brandt's inconsistent season, which saw him face criticism from fans and even relegated to the bench for Dortmund's Champions League clash against Barcelona in April.

Yet, the German international has responded with a strong run of form, delivering two goals and three assists in his last three matches, showcasing his importance to Niko Kovac's squad.

Brandt also addressed whispers of a possible return to his hometown club, Werder Bremen, with a touch of sentiment. "It's a nice feeling to be linked with your hometown club," he said, acknowledging the speculation but quickly shutting it down. "The fact that there are rumours from time to time, I find it flattering."

Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has also backed Brandt's role at the club. Following a standout performance against TSG Hoffenheim, Kehl noted, "Julian Brandt has shown his quality, and we value his contributions."

Meanwhile, head coach Niko Kovac praised Brandt's recent displays, saying, "Against Hoffenheim, he had many good moments that show what qualities he has. I hope he performs like this in the coming games."

Despite earlier posts on X suggesting Dortmund might consider letting Brandt leave if a suitable offer arrives, the player's recent comments and performances indicate he remains a key part of their plans. With the team preparing for their final Bundesliga match of the season against Holstein Kiel, Brandt's focus appears firmly on helping Dortmund secure a strong finish.

Brandt's loyalty and form are timely boosts for Dortmund, who are chasing a Champions League spot and aiming to end the 2024-25 campaign on a high. For now, the midfielder's future seems firmly tied to Signal Iduna Park, where he continues to win over fans and teammates alike.
