Kaizer Chiefs Diski coach celebrates young talent making first-team impact

Speaking at the Carling Knockout Cup/Carling Cup media update, Sheppard, who has been involved with the Chiefs' Diski setup for several years, has watched several of his players progress to the first team, including defender Aden McCarthy, who has become a regular this season.

"Seeing someone like Aden McCarthy thrive and now get regular first-team game time is a proud moment for us. It's about timing - it's not rushed. The coach monitors them, and when the opportunity comes, it's up to the player to seize it," said Sheppard.

The Amakhosi youth coach added that its good to see the club's youngsters progressing and he feels honoured to have been part the journey of many young players in the country.

"I have had the privilege to work with some of the top youngsters in the country," said Sheppard, who will be travelling with the DDC squad to England next week to face Under-21 sides from Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers, and Manchester United.

"It is heartwarming to see our players' hard work, commitment, and desire pay off when they earn opportunities through the All Stars game, and eventually, promotions to the first team."

The All Stars team is a mixture of players of players from 16 PSL teams and DDC - voted by fans.

The squad will then play against champion of the Carling Knockout Cup between Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants. The final will be played on 6 December at Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the Carling Cup set to be staged at Moses Mabhida Stadium seven days later.
