Kaizer Chiefs eye CAF push with timely squad boost

Kaizer Chiefs eye CAF push with timely squad boost

Amakhosi head into the fixture with renewed confidence after ending a four-match losing streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over Durban City at FNB Stadium last weekend.

That result not only restored momentum but also lifted the Soweto giants to fifth place on the table with 33 points from 19 matches, keeping their CAF qualification ambitions firmly on track.

Mthethwa and McCarthy return from suspension after missing the previous outing, having accumulated bookings in the prior match against Richards Bay FC.

Their absence was managed effectively, with Glody Lilepo emerging as the match-winner, but their availability now adds further depth and balance to the squad at a crucial stage of the campaign.

"After securing victory in Sunday's Betway Premiership fixture against Durban City in Johannesburg, Kaizer Chiefs will return to their alternative home venue, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, this Saturday to host Magesi," the club confirmed on their website.

"Amakhosi, currently fifth on the log with 33 points from 19 matches, have two games in hand compared to most teams above them. Magesi, meanwhile, sit at the bottom of the standings with 14 points from 20 matches.

"This encounter promises to be a fierce battle, as Chiefs are chasing a CAF qualification spot, while Magesi are fighting to escape the relegation zone.

"Chiefs will be boosted by the return of Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Aden McCarthy, both of whom missed Sunday's match due to suspension. Their availability adds depth to a squad already strengthened by recent recoveries from injury."

This will mark the first meeting between the two sides this season, with Chiefs having won their last encounter 2-1 in March. Magesi, meanwhile, arrive desperate for points as they look to revive their campaign and climb out of the relegation zone.
