Petersen's standout display not only secured victory for Kaizer Chiefs but also marked his 15th clean sheet in just 24 Betway Premiership appearances this season - an impressive return that has not gone unnoticed.
Hugo Broos had previously revealed that Petersen was in his plans for the March international friendlies against Panama, before the shot-stopper was ruled out due to appendix surgery.
With competition intensifying, Petersen faces a tough battle for a place in the national team. Established number one Ronwen Williams and in-form Sipho Chaine are expected to be included, while Ricardo Goss - who has impressed at Bloemfontein Celtic (Siwelele) - has often occupied the third spot.
Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef has publicly backed the 31-year-old, insisting his performances warrant national team recognition as Bafana build towards their World Cup campaign.
Despite the growing noise around selection, Petersen remains grounded.
"I think, for me, the hope is always there," he told SuperSport TV.
"But at the end of the day, God is in control. We can only control what we can, and that's performing week in, week out. That's the only thing I'm in control of. So, the rest, I leave it in God's hands, and let's see what happens."
Amakhosi will wrap up their season against Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday.
