Karabo Dhlamini admits pressure is on Banyana Banyana ahead of crucial Ivory Coast clash

South Africa go into the encounter looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Tanzania in their tournament opener, while Ivory Coast arrive full of confidence after cruising to a 4-1 victory over Burkina Faso in their opening match.

Dhlamini admitted the defeat to Tanzania was a difficult setback but insists the team's focus has shifted to securing three vital points against the Ivorians.

"It was a tough pill to swallow. We didn't start the tournament the way we wanted," said Dhlamini.

"But we need to focus on the next game. There is pressure on us. They won their first game and have the momentum. We can't drop more points. We know it will not be easy, but we must try to give our best and win the next game."

The defender believes the opening-round results underline the growing competitiveness of women's football across the continent with defending champions Nigeria having also stumbled in their first match as they lost 3-2 to Malawi.

"Teams have improved and I think we also need to improve," Dhlamini said.

"They are physical, they have quick players and are strong. We just need a game plan and to focus more on ourselves and how we approach this game."

Banyana will once again play at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, the same venue where they suffered their opening defeat to Tanzania.

South Africa will conclude their Group B campaign against Burkina Faso at the same stadium on August 4, but a positive result against Ivory Coast is crucial if they are to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.
