Karim Adeyemi set for Barcelona debut as Hansi Flick starts pre-season plans

The Germany international, who joined Barcelona earlier this month, has spent the past week training with his new teammates and is now in line for his first appearance as Hansi Flick begins shaping his squad for the new season.

Flick is expected to use two different line-ups during the match to give as many players as possible valuable game time while assessing fitness and form ahead of the new campaign.

Barcelona have travelled to England with a 30-man squad that includes several promising youngsters from Barcelona Atletic. The club is still waiting for a number of Spain internationals to return following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has not travelled after leaving the training camp to complete a loan move to Ajax.

Raphinha is also unavailable after only recently returning from his post-season break, while Frenkie de Jong continues his recovery from a knee injury. Alejandro Balde and Fermin Lopez are also working their way back to full fitness.

The match will also give several academy players an opportunity to impress the Barcelona coaching staff. Jofre Torrents, Espart, Brian Farinas and Hamza will all be hoping to show they are ready to challenge for places in the senior squad this season.

Flick will also be monitoring the progress of experienced first-team players including Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Gerard Martin as they continue to build match fitness.

Although the result against Birmingham City is of little importance, the game represents an important step in Barcelona's preparations for the new campaign, with their La Liga season scheduled to begin on August 23.
