Kgaugelo Sekgota starts new chapter in Egypt with Petrojet SC

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Egyptian club, bringing an end to his brief spell with Siwelele and opening the door to a fresh start outside South Africa.

Petrojet were impressed by Sekgota after his arrival in Egypt and moved quickly to secure his signature. The winger will now be hoping to rediscover the form that previously established him as one of the country’s most exciting attacking players.

Sekgota’s career has taken him through several clubs, including Bidvest Wits, Moroka Swallows, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC. He joined Chiefs in 2021 and made 48 appearances for the Soweto giants before departing two years later.

His time at Stellenbosch also brought success, with Sekgota part of the squad that lifted the Carling Knockout.

The winger has also tested himself abroad, spending time with Portuguese side Vitória Setúbal. He made his Primeira Liga debut against FC Porto before eventually returning to South Africa.

Sekgota joined Siwelele in January, but his stay was short-lived. His latest move to Petrojet gives him another chance to rebuild his career and regain his place among the standout South African players plying their trade abroad.

Petrojet are no strangers to South African talent, having previously had Stellenbosch defender Qobolwakhe Sibande on their books before his return to the Betway Premiership on loan.

Based in Suez, Petrojet have climbed through the Egyptian football ranks since being established in the 2000/01 season. They now compete in the country’s top division and play their home matches at Suez Stadium.

For Sekgota, the focus will be on making the most of this opportunity and proving that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.
