The club's struggles in the league over the past ten years have been well documented, with Amakhosi lifting their last league title in the 2024/15 season.
Under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the team ended in ninth place last season, but the foundations the Tunisian mentor laid last term are now starting to produce results.
Chiefs have started the 2025/26 campaign with three wins from three games, over Stellenbosch, Polokwane City and Richards Bay but face a test of their credentials in their next game against reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns next week.
Ben Youssef, who has been in charge of the team in Nabi's absence, as he attends to a family matter, explained that Amakhosi are only currently at only about 60 to 70% of their potential.
The assistant coach said in the Citizen: "We have our (points) target in the team, it is between the players and the technical staff.
"It is written in the meeting room. We know what we have to do and we will keep it between us, and take it game by game.
"(But) Chiefs is one of the biggest teams in South Africa and if we are playing in the league we are playing to win the league."
Sundowns started their season with a 1-1 draw with Chippa United before beating AmaZulu and Magesi.
"There is still a lot to do but until now we are 60 to 70 percent happy. The new players will give more solutions to help the team. They still have something to add, to create more situations to score," added Ben Youssef.
