Kieran Trippier backs Newcastle to improve despite confidence dip

Kieran Trippier backs Newcastle to improve despite confidence dip

Newcastle's season has unravelled in recent weeks, beginning with a heavy 7-2 defeat to FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. That result was followed by three straight losses in the Premier League, leaving the Magpies down in 14th place and facing an uphill battle to secure European football.

The poor run has also fuelled transfer rumours, with several key players reportedly attracting interest ahead of the summer window. However, Trippier made it clear that such talk should not influence performances on the pitch.

"As players, you can't think like that, because whatever happens at the end of the season happens at the end of the season," he said. "I know I'm leaving at the end of the season, but I'm not thinking about that."

The experienced defender stressed his commitment regardless of selection. "If I play, I'll give it my all. If I don't play, I'll still give everything. Players at this club or any club shouldn't let these things affect them."

Trippier also dismissed suggestions that uncertainty had disrupted the dressing room, pointing instead to a dip in belief.

"I've not seen that from any of my team-mates. All I can see is maybe we're low in confidence," he admitted. "But what an opportunity we've got this weekend."

Newcastle now face a daunting trip to Arsenal on Saturday, who are firmly in the title race. Despite the challenge, Trippier remains optimistic.

"They're going for the title, but what an opportunity it is for us to go there and get three points," he said.
