Kvaratskhelia brace extends PSG's Ligue 1 lead as Nantes relegation crisis deepens

After a surprise defeat to Olympique Lyonnais, PSG responded with authority. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia set the tone early, calmly converting from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed handball against Nantes.

PSG controlled the first half, and although Nantes thought they had equalised through Louis Leroux, the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up. Moments later, the hosts made that decision count. Achraf Hakimi surged forward and found Desire Doue, who fired brilliantly into the top corner from a tight angle.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Kvaratskhelia struck again with a composed finish after weaving into the box, effectively ending the contest. PSG continued to press, with Hakimi going close from distance and Kvaratskhelia denied a hat-trick by the crossbar. Fabian Ruiz also hit the woodwork as the home side pushed for more.

PSG manager Luis Enrique saw his side respond exactly as required in the title race, moving clear at the top and regaining momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

After the match, however, Enrique's focus briefly shifted to Nantes' struggles. "It breaks my heart to see historic clubs in difficulty," he said. "There are other historic clubs in the lower divisions that I would like to see in Ligue 1, like Saint-Etienne and even Bordeaux."

For Nantes, the situation is becoming critical. With just one win in their last 13 league matches, they remain deep in the relegation battle, five points from safety with time running out.
