Leon Goretzka set for Bayern Munich return amid injury crisis

The 29-year-old midfielder has found himself on the bench repeatedly, most recently missing Bayern's dominant 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga.

Despite this, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer expressed confidence in Goretzka's future with the club.

Speaking ahead of their Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb, Neuer backed his teammate.

"He's always been an important part of the team. That's why everyone wants him back on the pitch. I believe in him," Neuer said during a press conference.

"He's completely motivated. You can see that in every training session. I'm convinced his time will come."

Goretzka's path back into the squad has been made easier following a long-term injury to Sacha Boey.

Coach Vincent Kompany confirmed Goretzka's return to the squad for upcoming matches.

“We had to leave one player out against Kiel, but now with Sacha Boey injured, that question doesn't arise," Kompany explained.

“Our focus is fully on the game, and we need positive energy."

With Boey sidelined, Goretzka's opportunity to reclaim his spot in the team may be just around the corner, offering a potential lifeline in his challenging season.
